Why Fetal Fascist Carly Fiorina is a Threat to Women

17 Sep

“If women want any rights more than they’s got, why don’t they just take them, and not be talking about it.”

– Sojourner Truth

I wanted to keep this post professional, but there’s something about other people wanting to dictate what choices I am “allowed” to make for my own body that really makes my blood boil.

A universal sustainable development includes gender equality and ensuring sexual and reproductive health and rights are protected. Unfortunately, it is issues that fall under this umbrella, such as reducing maternal mortality and birth control/abortion access that constrain female independence and freedom, control over their own bodies, sexuality and childbearing that deny personal life choices and opportunities regarding education and careers.

Not only in the United States, but around the world, women and girls face very real barriers concerning equality (wage gaps, gender-based violence, genital mutilation, etc.) but the poor and socially disadvantaged become further ostracized.

GOP candidate and pro-life advocate Carly Fiorina is a threat to eradicating poverty and achieving that sustainable development which I see as possible through gender equality including women’s rights, health and empowerment.

Fiorina’s plan to cut contraception access and limit it to over-the-counter would likely lead to higher, not lower abortion rates. And although she only believes in abortion for circumstances of rape, maternal mortality and incest, women who want to terminate pregnancies will find a way – and it will be detrimental and dangerous. I assume she wouldn’t want to be responsible for an underground abortion ring, but it looks like that’s what she could breed.

While I am pro-choice, I do not mind those who favor a pro-life stance, and I do have opinions on aborting a fetus over 20 weeks. However, reproductive rights ARE human rights and Carly nor anyone else should ever be able to dictate what another woman chooses to do with her body.

I just can’t seem to find any rationale on how limiting access to birth control and abortions will be beneficial. Fiorina also continues to blast Planned Parenthood as a callous and brutal organization, however many women depend on PP. Perhaps instead of defunding PP, maybe we should develop better ways of managing its practices?

All in all I think Carly is a woman who needs to feel important, yearns to be relevant and enjoys challenging the status quo just for the hell of it.

Rush Limbaugh Claims “Women Are Nothing But Abortion Machines”…

8 Nov

Yesterday, I read another stupid comment from Rush Limbaugh and came across this great piece by Erin Gloria Ryan on Jezebel. She pretty much summed up exactly how I feel, which I ranted below, but is not half as funny as Erin’s post.

Rush Limbaugh Gives A Speech In Michigan

“Thrice-divorced, pill-abusing ‘conservative’ Rush Limbaugh has a real problem with the loose morals of American women, whom he claims have been turned into ‘abortion machines’ by Democratic politicians.

Limbaugh, who once called Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” because she expressed the belief that insurance companies should be compelled to cover birth control, has his gullet in a bunch over the way he feels that women have been “demeaned” by liberal policies. Yesterday, he said,

Look at what [liberals] are doing to women with their policies: They’re demeaning them, they’re turning them into nothing but abortion machines. There’s so much that we could be doing to just fight back, but the Republican Party, even if they had all the money in the world right now, doesn’t seem inclined to do any of this.

Another cool way that Rush Limbaugh has defended women against being “demeaned”: That time he suggested that abortion rates would decrease if women had to use guns to perform them.

But Limbaugh’s strong personal history of feminism and strict adherence to the moral code he imposes on others aside, I’m totally stoked that soon my liberal friends and I will be turned into abortion machines for a few reasons:

  1. Saves a ton of money and time waiting in abortion clinic waiting rooms when what I really want to do, as a lady, is get straight to the abortin’! One thing women love more than anything is vaginal cramping and bleeding! I love doctors, man! I love having my genitalia scrutinized over by people wearing novelty scrubs! All bitches do!
  2. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a robot. Once my transition to machine is complete, I’m going to go around saying ABORT ABORT ABORT in a robot voice to my robo-friends and we’re all going to laugh and laugh because that can mean two things.
  3. Abortion Machine is a good band name.

Anyway, the human body is amazing.”

On a more serious note…

Limbaugh has been criticizing women for as long as I can remember, and attacks us over birth control and abortion, yet he has been married many times and he has yet to have any children.  Have his wives been using birth control or have they had abortions, or is he sterile or is he really not that in to his wives? or women for that matter? 😉

With Limbaugh’s rationale we can conclude that all men are walking sperm machines, and revel in getting women pregnant and abandoning them. This guy is an idiot most of the time. I suggest men take a look at themselves and say you know, hmmm, how does a woman get pregnant? Well it takes two people, which even includes a doctor and a woman who is getting in vitro. Many women get into situations where raising a child either alone or in poverty would leave the child unentitled to proper care and attention. Where is the shaming of these men who want nothing to do with their children and have abandoned their wife and family? Isn’t that just as terrible a “crime” as abortion for a man to commit?

Democrats do not push abortion upon anyone.  They permit women to make decisions about their lives and their reproductive choices.  Why does Limbaugh think women shouldn’t be able to make their own decisions, when he never objects to the behavior of men who are involved in the situations in which women find themselves?

Women are supposed to be equal citizens in this country but if they are not capable of making their choices in health care, in control of their own reproductive choices, and whether they have children at all, they are not equal citizens and have been having their rights as independent human beings.  It just so happens only women are affected by these choices in such a personal manner.  Men are never, ever going to face the issue of pregnancy and bearing and in most issues, caring for those children who result from relationships or sexual assault.  How is it that they feel they should have the right to make those decisions for the women who do face those issues, and are the only ones who are ever going to face those issues?

If their beliefs are so rigid, then why can’t women have the right to get involved and tell certain men they should not reproduce, if Limbaugh and his crew of zealots feel they have the right to force women to reproduce?  That would be the only manner in which equality can be achieved.  Are we to be able to tell men they can’t have sex for recreational purposes only, since Limbaugh and the religious right seem to think only women are the ones made who do not have the right to make their own decisions?  If they are going to control women, shouldn’t men be controlled since they are involved in the fertilization process?
